The organization of the consultation and the preparation of this report were carried out under the
leadership of Mona Kaidbey, UNFPA Deputy Director, Technical Division, and Coordinator,
Adolescent and Youth Programmes (AYP). Susan Wood assisted UNFPA staff with the
organization of the consultation and wrote this report.
UNFPA would like to acknowledge the invaluable input, both to the consultation and to this
report, of Chetty Dhianaraj and Mary Guinn Delaney of UNESCO, Margaret Sheehan and Amy
Weissman of UNICEF, Nicole Haberland and Deborah Rogow of The Population Council, and
Ms. Doortje Braeken of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). Also
appreciated were help with the development of the agenda from Rafael Mazin of the Pan
American Health Organization (PAHO) and Robyn Dayton of FHI. Special thanks go to Zeina
Saab, who provided tremendous logistical support to the consultation, to Mary Otieno, of the
AYP, for consistent support throughout the process; Werner Haug for his valuable input and
Christina Vrachnos, for help with editing and layout. We deeply appreciated the tremendous
effort of the UNFPA Country Office in Colombia, especially the warm welcome from UNFPA
Representative Tania Patriota and Assistant Representative Lucy Wartenberg, as well as the
amazing administrative support from Adriana Anzola, Ivan Siachoque, Mariela García and Karol
Franco. We would like to thank the following UNFPA Regional Advisors for their assistance:
Marija Vasileva-Blazev, Alexandre Bodiroza, Sonia Martinelli-Heckadon, Asha Mohamud,
Josephine Sauvarin and Maaike Vanvliet. We also want to thank UNFPA Country Offices
throughout the world, as well as regional UNESCO staff persons. Finally, we want to thank the
many participants and presenters, who - through their participation in this process – helped to
illuminate and inform the discussions that led to this report.
